Are Video Poker Odds on Betting Sites Too Good to Be True?

Hey folks, been digging into the video poker offerings on some of these betting sites lately, and I’ve got to say, the odds they’re flashing look almost too juicy to trust. You know how it goes with sportsbooks—sometimes they dangle a carrot to pull you in, and I’m wondering if that’s the play here. I’ve spent a fair bit of time breaking down the paytables they’ve got listed, and on paper, they’re showing returns that rival some of the better casino machines out there—like 9/6 Jacks or Better levels, if you catch my drift. Full house at 9, flush at 6, that kind of setup. Sounds great, right? But here’s where I start scratching my head.
First off, these platforms aren’t exactly known for being generous unless there’s a catch. With sports betting, they’ve got the vig baked in, and even with casino-style games, the house edge is usually there lurking. So why would video poker be the exception? I pulled some numbers from a couple of sites—won’t name names yet, still digging—and ran them through a basic odds calculator. The expected return was hovering around 99.5%, which is solid, no doubt. But that’s assuming the RNG is legit and the game’s not rigged to skew results after a few hands. Anyone else notice how the streaks feel off sometimes? Like, you’ll hit a few decent hands early, then it’s nothing but junk for an hour.
Another thing bugging me is the fine print. Some of these sites tie the “optimal odds” to max bet levels, which isn’t unusual for video poker, but the wager requirements feel steep compared to what you’d see in a brick-and-mortar joint. Plus, there’s the payout speed—had a buddy cash out a small win from one of these setups, and it took longer than it should’ve. Makes me wonder if they’re banking on you losing it back before the money even hits your account.
I’m not saying it’s all smoke and mirrors, but I’ve played enough video poker to know when something feels too polished. Anyone else run the numbers or have a hot streak that turned cold fast? Curious if this is just me overthinking it or if there’s something fishy in the mix.
